Councilmember Bowser:

Thank you for your support of DPR’s efforts to finally fulfill the long overdue promise of constructing a top quality ball field, plus outdoor competition basketball court at Emery Recreation Center.

As we discussed at the ANC meeting a little over a week ago, please find below the construction schedule for yours and the community’s review. As you will see, the pace of this project will move quickly, but we are happy to have a team in Forrester Construction and Regan and Associates, along with support from the Deputy Mayor’s Office, which is mobilizing to help meet DPR’s aggressive goals.

Key timing is in 2 phases, and will begin as follows:

PHASE I: Basketball Court Build Out
FINISH: 12/10

* Resurfacing of tennis court to basketball court to begin 11/10
* Pouring of new concrete surfaces on court to begin 11/17
* Court resurfacing begins 11/24
* Benches/bleachers installation to begin 12/3
* Court substantially complete on 12/10


PHASE II: Ball Field Construction
FINISH: 5/27

* Clear current grass and dirt/debris layer 1/15
* Replace ball field curbs to begin 2/19
* Install concrete bases and sidewalks to begin 2/26
* Installation of dugouts to begin 3/12
* Installation of fencing and backstop to begin 3/26
* Level field and final grade to begin 4/9
* Sod and Seed to begin 4/23
* Field ready for play 5/27

We will be working aggressively to meet the needs of the community in building out this valuable land resource. If changes in the schedule occur due to unforeseen conditions or weather unfavorable weather patterns, we will be sure to advise the community ASAP. We are excited to finish out this long overdue project, and will be sending out notices to your offices and other neighborhood stakeholders as we move to within days of a restart, including the ANC, friends and neighbors of Emery Recreation Center.
